Cedar Rapids Mobile Speed Vehicle Test Deployed Today
Feb 24th
From the Cedar Rapids city website today, it looks like all systems are a go for its newest revenue stream, and I’m not talking bout the red light cameras. The first trial run of the “mobile speed vehicle” was successful according to the latest news release. Today’s 166 violators (it nabbed in 90min) will be happy to know that they will get off scot-free but tomorrow begins the real deal. I can’t say that its really a waste of taxpayers money though, claiming to nab a driver going 55mph in a 25mph school zone is probably a good thing. Here is the details of the press release.
Bold Move By Cedar Rapids Council Not Really Bold At All
Feb 19th
Wow. Just wow. The city of Cedar Rapids just lost another notch of respect from me today after learning they are actually considering to use $540,000 from city’s solid-waste-and-recycling operation to purchase some plastic “CartGuards”. The Cedar Rapids Gazette reported that local inventor Kim Brokaw has not been able to sell his invention to the private sector because “his product would increase the cost of the cart too much and so put them at a disadvantage in the marketplace”.
Orange Bowl Honeymoon
Jan 12th
My wife and I celebrated our belated honeymoon by taking a trip to Miami to watch the Iowa Hawkeyes play in the Orange Bowl. Besides the coldest weather Florida has seen in the last decade, it was a great trip and I can’t wait to do it again soon. This was actually the first bowl game that I have ever attended and I’ve learned a few things that should help me out in the future if I am lucky enough to go once more. Here are some things of note that we experienced during our trip.
New House!
Oct 16th

My wife Andrea and I had put our condo up for sale a little over a month ago and we are finally coming down to the last couple days at our current location. All the paperwork is signed and the last of our stuff has to be moved out before this Sunday night. We were hesitant to mention anything to family and friends because we understand that the sale process can be long and involved. In fact, we initially had a buyer back out on us due to some items that we felt were very trivial and resolvable. Once the original buyer backed out, we went back to another offer we got the same day from another party and we worked out a deal. We wish nothing but the best of luck to our new buyer who will be owning a well maintained condo in a great location, great neighbors, and with many upgrades.
