Cedar Rapids Mobile Speed Vehicle Test Deployed Today
Feb 24th
From the Cedar Rapids city website today, it looks like all systems are a go for its newest revenue stream, and I’m not talking bout the red light cameras. The first trial run of the “mobile speed vehicle” was successful according to the latest news release. Today’s 166 violators (it nabbed in 90min) will be happy to know that they will get off scot-free but tomorrow begins the real deal. I can’t say that its really a waste of taxpayers money though, claiming to nab a driver going 55mph in a 25mph school zone is probably a good thing. Here is the details of the press release.

So, I’ve been working roughly a month here at the Gazette Communications and I am getting more comfortable in my surroundings every day. One of the nice things about working here at the present time is that their is a lot of discussion about the future of print media and how we will survive as a business going forward. None of which is really a part of my job to figure out (thank god!), but I still enjoy the discussion that goes around here and it feels good to be involved with the companies direction (even if it is just listening). Seems like every day I get 2-3 blog links about different ideas and concepts on how to distribute and charge for online media. I’d like to share a couple thoughts on this matter.
Back To School

So I was laid off back in December from my previous employer PAETEC (formerly McleodUSA). I made it through two bankruptcies and countless reorganizations but couldn’t overcome this economy. I was sad to go because I meet a lot of nice co-workers and had some great relationships during my employment. In fact, that is where I met my wife and will have a special place in my heart for everything I have learned during my time. After I walked the long green mile to/from the HR department and a few days of non-stop gaming, it was time to start in on my resume. WOW. After about eight years on the job, I totally forgot to take care of me. No diploma. No certifications. I’ve always talked about going back to school but it never happened. I lost my security blanket and made a decision it was time to fill in the gap.
